After watching the video, I disagree with Jennifer's assessment that it proposes that mothers be "dating doctors" for their boys. Rather, I think it addresses the young male's need for quality same gender role models, a factor lacking in single-mom homes. Our upbringing establishes cognitive patterns that greatly affect our choices for the rest of our lives. If a child is given a same gender model with traits that engender successful marital relationships, the child will naturally emulate those traits. That, coupled with successful behavioral conditioning, develops those knee-jerk reactions (e.g. whether cooking is an acceptable activity for a man) which establish the framework for an adult's free will.

Our choices are largely determined by physics, chemistry, biology, and our individual theological, psychological, and sociological predilections. Thus, nurturing a child (leaving out, arguendo, the role of genetic predetermination) shifts their paradigmatic window of future choice. I think it's only natural that young guys need positive reinforcement for desirable traits, whether it comes from their mom or their dad.

There, now I've gone into it much more deeply than I planned to :)

Just so you all know, I do not "agree" with this news story. I only posted it because I found it interesting - but I really don't have a clear opinion on this angle.
